The Service Dog Project

Take a look inside the training barn. Home to washers and driers for the farm, yummy treats, and some Great Danes in various stages of training, this building is one you can't miss! Keep your eyes peeled for May, the dark brown dane with a sweet disposition. She's the youngest of the bunch in adolescent training! This barn isn't just home to young dogs though. Some grizzled members of the farm who have done their time - either working hard as service dogs or taking part in the breeding process - are welcomed to lounge around wherever they're comfortable. The gray, drool-covered male in this video follows Meghan, the head trainer, around and can often be found watching her do laundry and work with stubborn teens in this barn.

The puppy barn is nearly the largest building on the farm, home to all the adolescent dogs. Inside is heated and filled with separate dog enclosures, complete with blankets and a bed. Every dog has a buddy to keep them company! Attached around the side is an outdoor play pen area that the puppies have access to throughout the day at their leisure. Too young to be allowed free range of the more woodsy areas, these play pens are perfectly puppy-proof, and they connect directly to the indoor enclosures.

The Service Dog Project wouldn't be complete without some farm animals! Owner Carlene grew this business out of a farm full of rescue animals that she had been training for commercials and movies. Though the job has changed, the goats and donkeys were not left behind! Near the puppy barn and across from the training barn is the livestock pen, full of goats, mules, and mini donkeys. SDP gives these animals a nice dry home, and they are a huge draw for the farm's open house Sundays.
