There are many different disorders that can affect someone’s ability to perform everyday tasks. These can be permanent or temporary, but the Service Dog Project assures someone will have a trustee to get them through no matter how long the task. Disease, an accident, a congenital disorder, can all be causes of a mobility impairment.
An example of a temporary impairment is something such as a broken bone or surgical procedure. Some examples of permanent mobility disorders are cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, and muscular dystrophy. Some mobility impairments can even be present right from birth.
1 in 5 people in the world have a disability of some shape or form, which makes available resources like the work being done at SDP so crucial to society. The use of a wheelchair, cane, or walker is often needed to help someone with a mobility impairment. But there’s one thing that something of a cane doesn’t have, and that’s companionship.
